VOLLEYBALL

This AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) program is a club team offered to girls in grades 5-11. Year after year, we have seen the benefits these practices and tournaments can bring! Therefore, we would like to invite your daughter to participate in this rewarding experience.

OUR GOALS:
* Learn, develop, and improve their skills & knowledge in the game of volleyball.
* Experience the excitement of being on a team & learn how to be a good teammate.
* Have fun, build friendships, & explore the gifts and talents God has given them.
* Learn that volleyball is one aspect of their life to glorify God.

TEAMS:

Depending on the interest shown, we hope to have between 1-4 teams for each grade level. All participants will be placed on a team with no cuts being made. However, we do feel that the girls gain the most benefit from the program when they are placed with players of similar skill levels. An average player’s opportunity for improvement will be held back should she begin to always rely on a stronger player. The highest level of accomplishment comes through when a player is challenged to succeed. Please note that the team placement of the girls does not have any connection to future years; it is only an indication of where we see your daughter currently and where we feel she can best improve.

SCHEDULE:

Each team will be entered in approximately 5-6 Saturday tournaments from the end of January to the middle of March, with a possible Gold (state) tournament in March. This year, the Gold Tournaments will again be held on different weekends, depending on which grade you are in. During the season, practices will typically be held on Thursdays, but to begin the team selection process, we will have a couple practices around Christmas break and hopefully on a Saturday before the tournaments begin. A detailed schedule will be sent out later in January once registration is complete and teams are selected.

The schedule for the AAU Team Selection Process has been set as follows:

Sat. Dec. 21 at Unity
  9-11am - 5th and 6th grade

  12-2pm - 7th and 8th grade

Sat. Jan 4 at Unity

  9-10:45am - 5th and 6th grade
  11:45-1:30pm - 7th and 8th grade

We encourage participants to attend both sessions. If you are unable to attend a session, please let Coach Patty Timmermans know (ptimmermans@unity.pvt.k12.ia.us). We realize that these dates could have conflicts with your family holiday plans, however your daughter is still very welcome to participate.

REGISTRATION FEES:
Program fees cover: AAU membership & sanction fees, tournament entry fees, coaches, gym rental, liability insurance, and other miscellaneous expenses. We will be using the same jerseys as last year, so if yours still fits, please only pay the registration fee. All 5th graders & new participants will have to order a jersey, so please pay the registration fee and the $20 jersey fee. We typically keep the same jersey for
around 3 years.

5th-8th grade registration fee = $100
High School registration fee = pro-rated
Jersey cost = $20

OTHER NOTES:
It should be noted that every effort is made to avoid conflicts with the local schools and the events that they sponsor. Priority should always be given to those school events. Should an unforeseen conflict arise, please discuss this with the coach AND Patty Timmermans as soon as possible.

We are in NEED of approximately 30 – 40 coaches for the program! Please consider becoming involved in this capacity! It is a remarkable experience to see the players develop and the team bonding that occurs.

Coaches or assistant coaches can be parents, older siblings, current or former players. Please call or email one of the committee members for more information or to volunteer your services as a head or assistant coach.

Thank you for your continued interest in this program. We will always be happy to hear your input or answer
any questions.
